Getting Unstuck: Connecting to Our Higher Purpose – a Transformation Story with Rachel Druckenmiller

I believe we all have a higher purpose that we’re all called to accomplish – a reason for being here at the time that we are in the place we are. And so much of what drives me to do the work that I do is because I believe I’m here for a purpose, and I don’t want to miss it. You know, I think all of these little signs, these little dots along the way have happened, and then I‘ve been called to turn and to pay attention to them.

Today on Getting Unstuck

Our lives are rarely linear. Most of us start out “here” and then make a series of twists and turns. Sometimes we’re the driver. Sometimes fate and opportunity take the wheel. And sometimes someone else says “I’ll drive.”

In this series we’re calling “Transformation Stories,” we depart from our traditional format where we talk to an expert about some aspect of change. Instead, here we interview one individual about how they came to be where they are today. We’ll focus on a turning point, or catalyst that propelled them from a less than desirable situation to one that’s more aligned with who they really are and where they want to be.

In this episode, we talk with Rachel Druckenmiller. Rachel worked in the wellness industry as a benefits consultant, and started a side hustle as a wellness coach for both individuals and groups. In 2014, she made application to a contest to be named as one of the Top 100 Health Promotion professionals in the United States. What happened next would change the course of her life. And changing our lives is often the topic of personal conversation at this time of year. Rachel helps stoke that conversation by forcing us to ask the question of ourselves “Where might I be hiding?”

Now, listen to Rachel’s story of transformation.

“So my creature now is the peacock because the peacock is like, what's up, I'm here, I'm not hiding. I invite gaze. I don't demand it. You can't help but look at me. And it's not because I'm being obnoxious. It's just like, I'm so radiant, and I'm s…

“So my creature now is the peacock because the peacock is like, what's up, I'm here, I'm not hiding. I invite gaze. I don't demand it. You can't help but look at me. And it's not because I'm being obnoxious. It's just like, I'm so radiant, and I'm so present. And I'm so expanded that you can't help but notice.“

Listen for

• The importance of the butterfly metaphor in Rachel’s early transformation, but why the peacock is now her symbol.

• How burning out was actually a key element in Rachel’s growth.

• Why Rachel’s early success as a speaker – and her fear of future success – served to slow her down, but also deepen her transformation process.

• How Rachel’s breakdown positively contributed to her transformation.

• The authentic conversation Rachel held with herself before committing to go out on her own.

This might sound counterintuitive, but one of the best things that we can do when we’re feeling stuck, is to be still and to listen. Because sometimes, it’s almost like we’re in this frenzied state when we’re trying to get out of a place that we don’t want to be in. And we just try to run wherever we can, and it’s like chaos and it’s not focused at all. And it’s not intentional and it’s reactive.
